An alternative version of a folk story collected in Georgia from a man who’s life takes a terrible turn after he loses his family, money, and crop. He is then tricked and conjured into a restricting marriage.

I twisted the story to consider what if the man’s first wife was the true conjurer in all of this and had sacrificed herself and their life together to trap him in a marriage that would make him as unhappy as she was in their marriage.
